Google Meet Hardware Switching to New Device ID System

If you manage conference room hardware for your organization, a major backend change is coming to your dashboard. On March 9, 2026, Google announced it is officially replacing the "Legacy ID" for all Google Meet hardware with a brand-new Device ID system.

This isn't just a label change; it affects how you track, audit, and bulk-manage your meeting room devices across the entire Google Admin console.

Where Will You See the New ID?

The new Device ID will replace the old one in every major management area, including:

The Device List: All details, history, and video calling pages.
Admin URLs: Any browser links that are keyed to specific devices.
Audit & Reporting: Both Admin console audit logs and BigQuery exports.
The Meet Quality Tool: Filtering for specific hardware issues will now require the new ID.

The "Grace Period": How to Handle the Transition

Google understands that IT teams have workflows built around these IDs. To prevent system shocks, they’ve implemented a 6-month transition period:

Dual Support: For the next six months, you can use either the Legacy ID or the New ID for URLs, bulk uploads, and searches.
The Deadline: Exactly six months after the rollout is complete, the Legacy ID will be retired forever.
Bulk Updates: Be prepared any bulk settings updates via CSV upload will eventually require the new ID format.

Important Notes for System Admins

Historical Data: Audit logs created before this change will keep their Legacy IDs. Only new entries moving forward will use the new system.
Rollout Mix-up: During the 15-day rollout, you might see different IDs for the same device depending on which page of the Admin console you are viewing. Don't panic this is expected.
End-User Impact: Zero. Your employees in the conference rooms won't see a difference; this is strictly a behind-the-scenes management update.
