Gemini Screen Automation Rolls Out to Pixel 10
The promise of a phone that does the work for you is finally being fulfilled. Following its debut on the Galaxy S26 last week, Google officially began rolling out Gemini Screen Automation to the Pixel 10 series.
Part of the massive March 2026 Feature Drop, this update transforms Gemini from a chatbot into a personal agent capable of navigating your favorite apps to book rides, order food, and handle grocery runs, all in the background.
1. Real-World Task Execution
Gemini Screen Automation isn't just about voice commands; it’s about app control. When you give Gemini a task, it opens a secure virtual window on your device and uses cloud-based processing to interact with apps just like a human would.
What can you ask it to do?
- Rideshare: "Book a ride to the airport" or "Schedule a Lyft for 8:00 AM tomorrow."
- Food & Coffee: "Reorder my last Starbucks coffee" or "Order a pepperoni pizza for delivery."
- Groceries: "Add eggs, milk, and bread to my cart" or "Order groceries to my mom's house."
2. The Workflow: Working on This Task
Once you initiate a request, Gemini provides a Task in progress notification. You can tap View progress to watch the AI navigate the app in a mini-window or simply let it run in the background while you do other things.
- Human-in-the-Loop: For safety and precision, Gemini will pause to ask for follow-ups (like drink size or specific store location).
- The Final Tapping: To ensure security, Gemini will never hit the final Buy or Pay button. Once the cart is ready, it hands the controls back to you for the final checkout.
3. Usage Limits: Free vs. Pro
Because this feature relies on heavy cloud-based processing, Google has implemented daily request limits based on your subscription tier:
- Free Users: 5 requests per day
- AI Plus: 12 requests per day
- AI Pro: 20 requests per day
- AI Ultra: 120 requests per day
4. Compatibility & Setup
- Devices: Currently rolling out to Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL running the March 2026 (Android 16 QPR3) update. Early reports show it also appears on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
- Supported Apps: Launch partners include Uber, Uber Eats, Lyft, Grubhub, DoorDash, and Starbucks.
- How to Enable: Open the Gemini app, go to Settings > Screen Automation, and toggle the system permission to On.
Your Pixel 10 isn't just a phone anymore; it's an assistant that actually has hands. With Screen Automation now live, the 'boring' parts of life like booking rides and ordering lattes are officially someone else's problem
